Session Abstract: The Necessity of Developing Environmental Law Clinics in Asia; Iran, India, and Bangladesh as a Case Study Lead presenter (LP): Seyed Masoud Noori Panelists: Naeeme Abbasian, Sepideh Dowlatshahi, Zhila Fathi, Mrinalini Banerjee, The first panelist, Naeeme Abbasian, will provide an overview of the problems and environmental crises in the Middle East. For example water crisis, the potential of transboundary rivers to be a source of tensions, and even armed conflict in the region, including tensions between Turkey and Syria and Iraq, or tension between Iran and Afghanistan. This presentation will focus on the social and human impacts of environmental crisis, like the role of the environmental crisis in massive displacement, the population within the borders as well as immigration to other countries. The second panelist, Sepideh Dowlatshahi, will focus on environmental activists in Asia. He explains that universities and research centers have not made a significant contribution to the fight against the environmental crisis and its consequences for the ecosystem and human society. He goes on to explain what steps need to be taken to address this problem. One of these efforts is to establish two specialized environmental clinics in Iran. He describes the process of establishing a specialized environmental rights clinic in southeastern Iran. The third panelist, Zhila Fathi, will explain the process of establishing an environmental specialist clinic in northwestern Iran, in a city near the Urmia Lake. At its greatest extent, this lake was the largest one in the Middle East and the sixth-largest saltwater lake on Earth. The lake has shrunk to 10% of its former size due to damming of the rivers that flow into it, and the pumping of groundwater from the surrounding area. This situation is a real threat against the plant and animal environment of the region and threatens the health of about 5 million people. One of the main strategies of the clinic will be to promote the public's environmental awareness through education programs to everyone. The fourth panelist, Mrinalini Banerjee, will mainly base on the lack of state responsibilities in relocating the environmental migrants. Hence an awareness needs to be created by the Environmental law clinics to create pressure on the state to come up with a full proof model plan to combat environmental disruptions. she would focus on West Bengal and Odisha the 2 states of India.
