Title: Increasing Access To Justice And Social Justice Education Through A Medical-Legal Partnership

Lead Presenter: Carol Suzuki

Session Abstract: Professor Carol Suzuki of the University of New Mexico School of Law will show how the law school’s Clinical Law Program and UNM’s Health Sciences Center and School of Medicine coordinate their Medical-Legal Alliance to educate law students, medical students and professionals on issues of social justice as they provide services to better ensure the health of children and family stability in New Mexico. Educational efforts take advantage of different venues to develop expertise in inter-disciplinary medical-legal collaboration. Furthermore, the Alliance integrates efforts by operating in health clinics well-embedded in communities serving vulnerable families in Albuquerque, New Mexico, through a holistic approach in health care by integrating social programs while addressing legal issues that affect patient health and well-being.
