Title: Developing And Maintaining Long-Distance Relationships With Supervisors To Ensure Adequate And Appropriate Supervision For Law Students/Volunteers

Lead Presenter: Sue Schechter

Session Abstract: This will be an interactive session to discuss how programs are developing and maintaining relationships with long-distance supervisors. Primarily, we will discuss students working at placements that are located a distance from their school who are not regularly visiting campus and/or placements without regular visits from faculty. When students are doing credit and/or volunteer placements at organizations away from campus, it is critical that faculty are engaging with the supervising attorneys and the students to ensure the arrangement is working from all sides. We will review the responses from an informal survey sent to the GAJE and LEXTERN listserves, to guide our discussion on how schools are organizing their programs. The goal of this session is for all attendees to take home some ideas about how to strengthen and deepen these kinds of opportunities for their students.

Session Material:

  1. BACE manual final draft November 2014
  2. GAJE Survey Overview
