Title: Content & Method For Enhancing Social Justice Education In Externship Courses

Session Abstract: This session focuses on methods and materials for enhancing the learning about social justice that students acquire in a clinical externship placement. The facilitators are editors of LEARNING FROM PRACTICE: A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TEXT FOR LEGAL EXTERNS, designed for classroom components or tutorials accompanying externship fieldwork. The 3rd edition of Learning From Practice will be published in 2015, and the editors intend to accompany the book with a publicly-available website and blog for sharing teaching ideas. The session will highlight parts of the book focused particularly on social justice and involve participants in a teaching demonstration using the Navigating Cultural Difference chapter. The session will also include group work to facilitate an exchange of teaching ideas for other topics of interest to participants. The session seeks to assist participants consider their learning priorities for students in externship courses and consider effective methods to achieve them.
