Title: Engaging Nigeria’s Law Clinics With The Task Of Environmental Justice
Lead Presenter: Roseline Omoye Ehiemua
Session Abstract: This paper evaluates the performances of university based law clinics with regard to helping to stimulate interests, create awareness, seek redress and generally provide education on environmental justice in Nigeria. It affirms that clinical program in Nigeria pays little or no attention to providing a platform for addressing environmental abuses. It contends that in countries like Nigeria with high record of environmental degradation, clinics should devote considerable portion of their agenda to providing public enlightenment and mass counselling on environmental issues. This way, clinics will be more fulfilling when they also address these new realities. The path clinical programs should take to address environmental abuses and exploitations is prescribed for Nigeria and other violence prone jurisdictions.
