Short Bio: Carol M. Suzuki is Dickason Professor of Law at the University of New Mexico School of Law. She supervises law students in the Community Lawyering Clinic, where they represent clients through a medical/legal partnership with the UNM Health Sciences Center/School of Medicine, mainly in the areas of family law, immigration and juvenile delinquency. She is currently teaching Torts and Bioethics. Professor Suzuki co-authors the family law chapter of Aspen Publisher’s “AIDS and the Law.” Professor Suzuki received her A.B. at Stanford University in Psychology. Prior to law school, she was a research assistant with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Stanford Department of Psychiatry, studying alcoholism treatment. After graduating from Columbia University School of Law, she worked at the Legal Aid Society in New York City. She then worked at the HIV Law Project in New York City, first as a senior staff attorney, and then as Deputy Director. Professor Suzuki started full-time law teaching at the David A. Clarke School of Law at the University of the District of Columbia, working in the HIV/AIDS Legal Clinic. Just prior to joining the UNM faculty, she taught at Yale Law School as a Robert M. Cover Clinical Teaching Fellow.
