Short Bio: Chipo Mushota Nkhata is a female Zambian Citizen. She holders a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Zambia and a Master of Laws Degree from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. She is a PhD candidate at the University of Cape Town. She works for the University of Zambia, as a lecturer and researcher in the School of Law where she teaches legal writing, human rights law and clinical legal education. She is a holder of a valid law practicing certificate, having obtained her certificate of admission to practice as an Advocate of the High Court of Zambia in December 2008. Chipo is a human rights activist and has been running a private consultancy firm which specializes in legal and human rights work since 2013. She has conducts legal and human rights training, paralegal training, research, development of training materials and handbooks and community awareness raising activities. She has vast experience in dealing with human rights issues for vulnerable and marginalized groups, particularly health-related rights. Chipo has been coordinating the Human Rights Law Clinic of the University of Zambia and the Clinical Legal Education course. She has also been coordinating the Disability Rights Project of the School of Law. Both of these projects are fairly recent in the School of Law but have had a huge impact on law students who have successfully completed them. This motivates her to push for the full establishment of the University of Zambia Human Rights Law Clinic.
