Lead Presenter: Maria Hawilo
Co-Presenters:
- Elise Meyer
Session Abstract: Our presentation will focus on designing and implementing a collaborative health and human rights project among different academic disciplines and with local, community-based organizations. Through a discussion of one of our projects, based in Beirut, Lebanon, we will share ideas about strategies to create collaboration among different academic disciplines; we will address the role and ability of graduate students to address and assess needs of local communities in distant lands through a mix of qualitative and academic research; and, finally, we will focus on the challenges of implementing a collaborative, multidisciplinary program that merges the capacity of an academic institution with the needs of a local community.
