Short Bio: Don fouunded and directed the Virgil Hawkins Civil Clinics at Florida from 1973 until taking emeritus status in 2009. Don created and taught in a general civil practice, family law ,and mediation clinics. He also created and taught simulation courses in interviewing, counseling, negotiating, mediating, and representing clients in mediation. Don has helped develop clinical learning materials in Australia, Costa Rica, Malaysia, Uganda, South Africa, and Vietnam. He has lectured and consulted regarding clinical topics in these counties and in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Peru, Poland and, Thailand. Don has co-authored two books and published several articles analyzing aspects of learning core lawyering skills. A Florida Supreme Court certified family, circuit, and county court mediator, Don has taught, consulted, and published extensively regarding mediation theories, skills, and values.
