Title of Presentation : Clinical Legal Education – What it can/cannot achieve?

Names of all Presenters : Victoria Speed, Jessica Austen

Short Abstract : A law faculty should challenge its students beyond academic study. This involves encouraging them to recognise that they are part of a privileged profession, that their knowledge is valuable not just to themselves for their own personal gain, (e.g. qualifications or salary), but for the communities around them. They should leave a law faculty accustomed to finding time to do pro bono. Whilst there is much merit in students taking on clinical legal education, if this is the sole focus of the student is it preparing them for life long commitment to pro bono?
