Names of all Presenters: Marguerite Angelari, Maryam Arif
Short Abstract: The challenges facing Pakistan have made it increasingly difficult for human rights lawyers to promote the rule of law and access to justice. It has therefore become all the more important to develop law clinics that instill an interest in pursuing human rights in a new generation of lawyers. This session will provide an overview of the development of clinical legal education in Pakistan and highlight the instrumental role played by the Pakistan Bar Council. Since clinical legal education was introduced in Pakistan in 2011 by the Open Society Foundations, clinics have been launched at five universitiesThis session will be held in roundtable format with representatives from established clinics discussing how they have reached this point and their plans for future development of clinical legal education in Pakistan.
