Title of Presentation: The Success of Grassroots Justice in the Ukraine: A Case Study

Short Abstract: The session exposes the potential of legal empowerment as not just an approach integrating Law and Development but also the practical way to help people on the ground. As an example the session provides successful experience of Ukrainian grassroots justice case study. The latter is an inspiring example of Human Rights NGOs cooperation with the State bodies. Thus, the biggest achievement of LE in Ukraine was settlement of the system of community law centers, with support of the Open Society Foundations and UNDP. Community Law Centers provide consultation and legal aid to the people in rural communities. The variety of cases is extensive, includes social benefits, family dispute resolution, land entitlement, health care. The presentation is followed by the short discussion of LE challenges.
